There’s a lot of benefits of owning a furry friend, besides the unconditional love and companionship a pet can provide. There’s also a range of health, physical and mental benefits that are associated with owning a pet.

Activity

It’s no secret that your activity levels increase when you own a pet, however, the amount it increases by is dramatic, 69% in fact. This is due to the fact that you’re more likely to spend time outdoors when you own a pet, and you’re more likely to keep up with their physical intensity when you play with your pets.

Prevents Allergies and Improves Immunity

Contact with pets can prevent allergies and significantly improve immunity. This is especially beneficial for children, as having pets won’t reverse existing allergies but it can stop them from developing.

Mood

Naturally coming home to your pet after a long day at work is a sure way to boost your mood, but it also improves mental health in the long run. According to research, spending time with your pets releases the feel good hormones dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin, which can reduce your risk of mental health

Responsibility

Undoubtedly, there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with owning a pet, however, this can be a great opportunity for personal growth. Taking care of something you love can be extremely rewarding and provide a sense of purpose. This is especially the case for children, as pitching in at feeding times or helping with a bath, can instil a sense of responsibility in children and teach them many invaluable lessons.
